Thursday-Isaiah 61: 1-4, 8-11

December 6, 2018

These words must have left a significant impact on Isaiah; the prayer which follows is an imagining of one that Isaiah may have uttered to God after hearing these words:

Lord let it be true! I know you would not send a word for me to speak if it would not one day be true, but I know you have longed for your children to grasp this concept since you created this world and I know that we continue to get it wrong. We have continued to disregard the masses in order to raise a few to prosperity and power. I know that we have allowed our greed to overshadow—and even erase—our care for each other. I know I should live out these words in my life, and I will try to do so, and yet I also know in my heart that these words look to the coming of someone unique. I do not understand and I am unable to grasp what your word fully means…yet I am positive that you will send someone! Will I recognize this person? Will others? Will I even be alive to meet him? Oh, how I hope I’ll meet him!

And what of this everlasting covenant? Everlasting! What a blessed thought! It is such a beautiful image, Lord God, and I pray that I will be able to recognize the growth of righteousness and praise for what it is. I pray for the one who will come; that he will have the strength to speak this word clearly and that those who hear it will open their hearts to receive it. I pray that all who hear will recognize that they have the opportunity to be a part of a covenant with the True and Loving God.

While I pray that I will be blessed to live in the time this prophecy will begin to ring true, help me to live accordingly in the meantime. Help me, O Lord, to live as one clothed in salvation and covered in your righteousness that I would love rather than oppress. Lord, let it be. Amen.
